Mission & Values

Founded in 1987, Westport Construction originally focused on the construction and remodeling of custom homes.  Utilizing his years of construction expertise and experience Ray Apodaca was able to deliver the highest quality work for his clients.  This eventually led to opportunities to pursue the construction of affordable housing and community services projects, which remains its main area of expertise to this day and allows us to contribute to the improvement of our communities in a direct and positive way.  Over the past 20 years, Westport has constructed more than 3,000 units of new or rehab affordable housing.

Following the ideals of Vision, Leadership, Integrity, and Dedication, Westport was able to transition into institutional and commercial work in 1993.  During this time, Westport constructed such structures as the Child Development Center at Pasadena City College, Ting Shao Kuang Art Gallery, and several World Savings Bank branches.  Today, Westport is actively expanding its activities, branching out into such sectors as government, military, and university work.

Over its 30+ year history, Westport Construction Inc. has developed a sterling reputation for its ability to overcome challenging conditions, as well as its integrity in dealing with all parties involved in the construction process. As a result, we have established longstanding repeat-business relationships with both our clients and our vendors.

Westport views each project individually, knowing that no two are ever the same.  With our background in development, architecture, construction management and construction, Westport is able to understand the needs and agendas of all team members.  We have the ability to mediate between conflicting parties, presenting our issues in a professional manner while working towards the common goal of project success, keeping in mind others needs and desires.

Westport’s background and approach encourages creative problem solving, while being able to think outside the contractor’s box and present solutions that are satisfactory to all parties. 

Our approach is proactive rather than reactive.  We address potential problems that may impact other team members as well as those that impact us, offering guidance for the remediation of these issues rather than taking a hands off approach.  Our philosophy is that every issue that impacts a team member impacts the team as a whole.  The leadership role we assume is assertive rather than aggressive, with team success being its primary focus.

Integrity is the hallmark of Westport’s approach.  We deal with other team members openly and honestly, and expect the same of them.  Both our clients and our vendors seek to do repeat business with Westport because they have confidence knowing that they’ll be treated fairly.

Communication is of the essence in this regard, it needs to be both frequent and open.  Beyond contractually-obligated meetings and correspondence, we seek to sure that all critical issues are communicated clearly and timely, ensuring an appropriate response.  We do not hesitate to admit our mistakes, and expect the same of Westport’s team members. 

Westport is fully committed to the success of each project, taking whatever actions necessary to ensure it.  We staff our projects with the appropriate personnel, in terms of both numbers and talent, to ensure success.  Individual staff members dedicate themselves to the client’s goals, and will not hesitate to go above and beyond the expected level of involvement.

We expect the same level of dedication of other team members, including our clients and design team, as well as our subcontractors and suppliers. 

Another measure of dedication is longevity.  In a volatile industry, many members of Westport’s staff have been with the firm for a number of years.
